These sharks belong to the lanternshark family and create their own light to see in the pitch-dark waters of the deep ocean. Because of this they don’t have to hunt for prey. Like the megamouth shark, these giants only eat small things like plankton and small invertebrates. Goblin sharks are sometimes called the “living fossil” since they are the only surviving members of their family, mitsukurina, and it dates back to 125 million years ago.
